Working on one of Europe’s biggest residential projects is a labour of love for Bellway Planning Manager Nasser Farooq.
The 37-year-old, who was born and bred in Barking, is a member of the development team which is masterminding Bellway London Partnerships’ role in a wider scheme which will deliver more than 10,000 new homes at Barking Riverside.
Bellway London Partnerships has recently started building work on 107 new apartments at Phase H East– its latest site at Barking Riverside which will run alongside its existing Fielders Quarter development where 371 homes are currently under construction.
Nasser, who still lives in the borough, says he feels privileged to be involved in the huge regeneration project which is transforming the former Barking Power Station site.
He said: “As a local person who grew up in the area, I know how much this means to the people of Barking and Dagenham. What is essentially happening here is that a whole new town is being created and I am really excited to be able to play a part in that hugely ambitious project.
“I joined Bellway nine months ago from Barking and Dagenham Council, where I was working for Be First, the boroughs own regeneration company that handled the statutory planning functions. In my position there I was closely involved with construction companies working on the Barking Riverside project and came across Bellway quite a lot.
“When I saw there was a vacancy on the planning team at Bellway, I jumped at the chance to join them and was lucky enough to land the job. Now I am able to use my local knowledge and experience of the wider scheme to help shape the future of Barking.”
The developer has also recently received detailed planning consent from Barking and Dagenham Council to build a further 167 new homes at Barking Riverside, on land known as Phase H West – the next set of new homes it aims to deliver at the site – and is in discussions with the council for a further 460 new homes within Fielders Quarter.
Nasser said: “This scheme will provide thousands of much-needed new homes in Barking and with the Thames Clipper and Barking Overground Station also coming the transport links internally and to the wider area will be in place to accommodate these new homes.
“Bellway will be delivering more phases of new homes at Barking Riverside and will be building on the site for at least the next 10 years as it helps to create a huge new neighbourhood. This project will help transform Barking into one of London’s most affordable and attractive places to live and work. As a local person I am proud to be part of that amazing journey. You could say it is a labour of love for me.”
Bill Kenneally, Regional Director of Bellway London Partnerships, said: “We are extremely proud to be playing a key role in this major regeneration project in Barking and to have a local person like Nasser as part of our planning team working on the project is absolutely invaluable.
“As someone who was lived in Barking all his life, Nasser cares passionately about the town and understands what the local community want to see from this neighbourhood that is being created.
“This extensive knowledge of the local area, not to mention Nasser’s professionalism and enthusiasm for a job he clearly enjoys, will be a huge asset to us as we continue to deliver much-needed homes within the Barking Riverside project.”
A selection of one and two-bedroom apartments are currently available at Fielders Quarter, with prices starting from £261,445.
