Following the success of the design of the Tower Bridge Magistrates Court, which will open soon as The Dixon, Dexter Moren Associates (DMA) has created another successful design for Dominvs Group. It demolished a nondescript 1990s office building and constructed a 29,525 sq ft boutique hotel at 233-237 Old Marylebone Road, London.
Located in one of central London’s chicest and most affluent sites, the hotel will offer guests a unique hospitality experience in a building that melds influences from the surrounding neighbourhood into a distinctive but complementary contemporary design. DMA increased the building’s relationship along Old Marylebone Road and preserved the character, scale and hierarchy of the existing streetscape.
The design and materials integrate sympathetically into the diverse collection of periods and styles of the surrounding buildings, with the front façade being predominantly made of stone. A light stone will bring visual attention to the façade’s projection, while a darker stone will blend with the darker elevations of neighbouring buildings. In addition, some coloured window reveals will bring visual interest to the contextual façade.
The current parking forecourt will be replaced by a new landscaped street frontage, helping to create a vibrant presence at street level plus new public seating and planting to enhance the Old Marylebone Road streetscape.
“The hotel at Old Marylebone Road is one of several being undertaken for Dominvs Group, and builds on our strong track record of creating quality hotel projects that achieve both commercial success and enhance the neighbourhoods in which they are located,” said Dexter Moren.
Construction is due to start at the end of 2018, with a proposed date of completion of 2020.
