Employment Scheme Signaled
With an overhaul of 6,000 acres at its disposal and its commitment to more than 100 different projects throughout the land, St Modwens is a leading light in the much-needed regeneration of this country.
This January, it has been greenlit to get to work on an 800,000 square feet tract of land on 35 acres of land in Tamworth off the M42 motorway. The planning will allow for a building 650,000 square feet long to be built in the hope that it will be able to provide accommodation and work opportunities for the local community. This will not be the first time St Modwens has operated around the area of Tamworth: back in the summer of 2013, the company had overseen an agreement securing itself 55 acres of land alongside junction 10. Now, just off junction 2, building work can now commence for the production of the site.
Whilst this might seem like a huge investment in improving the infrastructure of the area at the expense of the environment, St. Modwen wish to address the environmental concerns that such planning permission would undoubtedly raise. They have stated that they plan to preserve some of the natural habitat for the security of the wild and have been clear that not all of the acres of land purchased will be cleared for building work. Despite St Modwen’s address of these environmental concerns, it is clear that the area around Tamworth is an ideal and much sought after sight for businesses to use for storage and product development. Indeed, just west of the land acquired by St Modwen, 53,000 square feet of land were eventually sold to another enterprise (Lime Development Ltd). Lime Development Limited bought the land around Tamworth off DFS and is currently working on a 153,000 square foot building where work can be expected to be finished by May of this very year.
