Capita, the leading provider in the UK of technology enabled customer and business services, has been recognized at the North West Construction Awards 2017. The company has received four nominations at the Awards event because of their commitment to place-making as well as sustainability and development. Capita work to deliver their services across the North West of the UK.
The North West Construction Awards reward those who deliver best practice and innovation as part of construction projects around the region. Capita has had four projects nominated for this year’s awards, the LED street lighting retrofit, Blackburn Bus Station, Bridgewater Canal regeneration and the Hyndburn Wind Farm. The LED streetlight project was nominated for the sustainability category and was led by the Blackburn Partnership of Capita. The work took place on behalf of the Blackburn and Darwen Council, and aimed to replace old light sources with more efficient LED lights on the main and residential routes. The Blackburn Bus Station has been nominated for the sub regional project of the year for Lancashire. The Bus Station was also carried out for Blackburn and Darwen Council. The new bus station has been designed in order to improve the perception of public transport in Blackburn.
The Bridgewater Canal regeneration project was nominated for the preservation and rejuvenation category. The project was led by the Urban Vision partnership ad was carried out on behalf of Salford City Council. It is thought that the project has played a vital role for the Bridgewater Canal. The area has had new tow paths created as well as new seating information and rejuvenated park areas to be used for event s and celebrations. The final nomination was for the Hyndburn Wind Farm for the sustainability category. The project was led by Capital Real Estate and Infrastructure and has seen degraded moorland be transformed in to a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is thought the turbines will be able to generate 52% of the electricity requirements of the houses in Hyndburn. The winners of the Awards will be announced on Friday 23rd June.
