NCM Auctions has been tasked with managing the full clearance of Saint-Gobain PAM UK’s historic Holwell Works foundry in Melton Mowbray. As part of the contract, the Yorkshire-based auction and asset recovery experts will decommission the site and sell its equipment through auctions and private treaty sales.
Founded in the 1870s, the Holwell foundry has been a vital part of Melton Mowbray’s industrial history for more than 150 years, producing access covers and gully gratings for the road, water, and utility industries. However, the site’s closure is part of a broader strategy to consolidate production at Saint-Gobain PAM’s sister facility in Blénod, France, reducing the company’s road ironwork carbon emissions by half and helping customers achieve their net zero goals.
NCM’s clearance programme at Holwell Works will involve safe decommissioning and optimising asset recovery, with a focus on sustainable and environmentally compliant practices. The programme reflects Saint-Gobain PAM’s dedication to responsible site management.
The auction will feature a broad selection of machinery and processing equipment from the nine-acre site, including melting and moulding plants, workshops, finishing lines, and facilities for scrap recovery.
The online auction catalogue highlights a variety of specialist foundry tools and industrial equipment, such as induction furnaces, dip ovens, robotic welders, manipulators, and overhead magnet cranes. Other machinery on offer includes lathes, milling machines, compressors, hoppers, and conveyors.
Saint-Gobain PAM has committed to a sustainable approach, prioritising the recycling and repurposing of machinery to avoid landfill waste. This initiative will benefit local businesses, charities, and the wider community while supporting the company’s environmental goals.
Amy Rutherford, Partnership Lead at NCM, said: “This contract award from Saint-Gobain PAM represents a significant milestone for NCM Auctions and reinforces our position as a trusted and leading partner for specialised industrial site clearances like the Holwell Works site.
“Saint-Gobain PAM’s commitment to sustainability aligns with our approach, where valuable resources are repurposed, recycled and reintegrated into the circular economy.
“Due to the size and scale of this site, the auction includes hundreds of assets, from specialist foundry and steelmaking lines to industrial machinery that will be suitable for a wide variety of manufacturing applications. We’ve already had a lot of interest from overseas buyers.”
Bidding for the auction will conclude from 1pm on Thursday, 20 February. Private Treaty offers are also welcome, and additional details or viewings can be arranged by contacting NCM on 01302 898260 or via email.
