When it comes to heading up the search for new housing development sites in the South West, Bellway has found the man for the job in Sam Sowden, the new Land Director. Sam has been appointed Land Director for the housebuilder’s South West division, joining the team in its Bristol-based offices.
Only 30 years old, Sam joins Bellway having previously worked for Bloor Homes and Barratt Developments, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and ambition. Sam said: “Bellway has been on my radar for a while, as a market leader in the housebuilding industry, its reputation as a company stands out. I’m looking forward to working with the entire team here, and with our external partners.
“I like that the division has ambitious growth plans, and is looking to expand its presence in the South West of England starting with recent land acquisitions in Cullompton and Crediton.
“We’ve got a clear set of objectives and plans for growth as a business and that’s something I’m particularly looking forward to being part of. Bellway is actively seeking new development sites and would be pleased to discuss any suitable opportunities.”
Sam is looking forward to engaging with his team to make sure everyone works together to achieve their potential.
“I’m a real people person and a big believer in getting the best out of my team so they can individually progress within their role. I think it’s really important to empower the team and lead from the front, which is something I plan to do within my role as Land Director at Bellway South West,” Sam added.
Sam started his role at the beginning of the year and say’s it’s been fantastic so far.
He said: “It is a weird time at the minute due to Covid with lots of people still working from home, so the office isn’t as busy as it normally would be. But everyone I’ve met so far has been really welcoming and attentive and after even a few days I slotted straight in.
“Culture is a big deal for me, and another reason I chose Bellway as an employer. Everyone works collaboratively together with an emphasis on getting the job done. We all have the same goal and it’s great to see a company that has a strong team ethos.
“I have a team of about six or seven people. Some have been here longer than others, some more experienced and some new starters like me. I think it’s great to have such a diverse team and I see myself staying with this company for a long time. Knowing that there are people who have been here for years really says something about the company. It shows they look after their staff.”
Bellway South West is currently building new homes at developments across Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
