The leading UK healthcare property investor, developer, and manager of healthcare properties, Octopus Healthcare, has announced the appointment of Kevin Beirne as Director of Retirement, joining the company from leading housing association One Housing.
“We are excited to welcome Kevin to Octopus Healthcare. His experience and commitment to the sector will be invaluable and will enhance our senior management team as we look to rapidly increase our investment into the UK retirement accommodation sector,” said Mike Adams, CEO at Octopus Healthcare.
Kevin has an experience of over 15 years in developing and managing specialist housing for the elderly and vulnerable, previously holding the position of Group Director for One Housing. There he supervised the successful launch of the Season and Baycroft older people’s housing brands. The newly created role of Director of Retirement welcomes him to head up the existing retirement team, as the business accelerates its retirement investment and development activity.
He argues that the first step towards a foundation that delivers better care, lifestyles, and choices to residents is the early introduction of services for the elderly and vulnerable in the design stages of a development. “This process was fundamental to my work at One Housing and it dovetails perfectly with the ambition and values of Octopus Healthcare. This new role at Octopus Healthcare offers me great opportunities to use all my experience in a positive way,” added Kevin.
During his time at One Housing, he came up with a number of revolutionary development and sector initiatives. One of these achievements was the launch of the influential think tank report together with the Smith Institute. ‘Housing associations and the NHS: new thinking, new partnerships’ proposed that by using parts of NHS land for senior living and complex supported housing for people with long term conditions, a better integration of services would lead.
