Whittam Cox Architects have been backing a team of runners that have raised over £900 for the Sheffield Special Olympics GB. The team of runners raised money by participating in the 2017 Plusnet Yorkshire Half Marathon. The runners were competitors from Sheffield United Football Club and undertook the challenge in order to raise money for the Special Olympics GB Sheffield Games.
Whittam Cox is an award winning architects practice that has been operating for more than 45 years. The Firm operates from Sheepbridge, Chesterfield but the architects have offices in Leeds and London. The Architects practice are placed in the top 50 UK architects and the top 150 Consultants in the UK, according to the rankings publisher Building Magazine.
The Sheffield United Club members included physiotherapists, masseurs, video analysts, kit men and accountants. Luke Prest from Whittam Cox also joined the team of fundraisers. The other participants were Jayne and David Thompson, who are parents of Special Olympics GB Sheffield’s Alex Thompson.
The Special Olympics GB National Games has been billed as the largest sports event that will take place in Great Britain for people that have an intellectual disability. The sporting event will be taking place in August in Sheffield. The opening ceremony of the Olympics will be held at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane. The Operations Director of Sheffield United, Dave McCarthy has said he is proud of the team that managed to raise £900 for the Special Olympics GB Sheffield Games.
Luke Prest joined the fundraising efforts from the supporters Whittam Cox as an opportunity to run alongside some of the members of his favourite team while raising money for a worthwhile event. Jayne and David’s son, Alex Thompson is an athlete in the Games and believe that the fundraising could help raise awareness for the charity and the games.
