The development of a new public leisure centre in Surrey has been approved The Leisure facilities will replace the current facilities in Egham, Surrey. The development plans will see the existing site cleared and a new centre nearly double the size take its place. This new project will also open the town’s first swimming pool.
The proposal was drawn up by Watson Batty Architects while in discussions with their client, Places for People, Runnymede Borough Council and the prospective site operator, Active Lifestyle. A number of other consultants were also involved as the proposal was being drawn up with the intention of making sure that the development could achieve the best capital investment possible. There were also a series of public consultations in order to make sure that the new leisure centre offered the desired facilities and could create a new sporting, health, leisure and wellbeing location that is of real benefit to the community.
This demolition and redevelopment work that has been planned by Watson Batty Architects has been valued at £19 million. The older 23,400 sq. ft. facility will be demolished and replaced with a 41,000 sq. ft. leisure centre fitted with top of the range indoor and outdoor facilities.

For fitness and exercise, there will be an indoor cycling studio, a 110 station fitness suite and a four court sports hall. There are also four more studios to be used with more flexibility and an indoor health studio which features sauna and steam rooms and wet and dry treatment rooms. Outside there is a full sized grass football pitch, a full sized synthetic pitch and a collection of six 3G five a side football pitches.
