Parkgate Shopping Centre, located in Rotherham Town Centre is set to have major works completed. The shopping centre has been bought by BMO Real Estate Partners in August 2015 and will undergo a significant amount of building work over the next year.
The Shopping Centre will receive an investment of £5 million in capital investment. During this redevelopment the Centre will welcome a new Primark Store, which will be moving from Rotherham’s High Street. The new store will be placed next to other big high street names like between M&S and Currys/PC World. The new Primark store will occupy a 33,100 square foot space that will be split over two levels and could lead to the creation of more than 40 new jobs. The total number of employees by Primark in Rotherham to 107. So this relocation will not mean the loss of any jobs, the opposite will occur in fact. However, it is uncertain how the relocation of such a big name will impact the Rotherham High Street.
The new Primark store is set to improve on the brands most recent shop fit, including a new double-height glazed front as well as signage zones and an extension of the mezzanine trading level. According to polls, Primark has been the number one retailer that customers have been wanting to move to the Parkgate Shopping centre for a number of years.
In addition to this rather large investment the Landlord has already contracted work for a new Costa Coffee drive-thru. Work on the new Costa has already begun, and will be located in the car park outside the Wilko’s and Pets at Home retail units. The new drive-thru coffee shop is set to open in July this year.
Other developments planned at the Parkgate Shopping centre include transforming the old Brantano unit to accommodate Holland & Barrett and Shoezone. This work is nearing completion and will include an updated shop front and signage zones as well as improved pedestrian access on top of the sub division works.
