Brits are being told that leaving the bedroom door open could be the trick to getting a good night’s rest.
The mattress experts at Winstons Beds have revealed that sleeping with the door open can promote air circulation and regulate temperature.
Sleeping with the bedroom door is often viewed to be an unusual habit with the majority of people keeping it shut as they sleep through the night.
However, sleeping with the bedroom door has various benefits which many are unaware of such as better air circulation and temperature control.
It’s also an effective way of alleviating feelings of confinement in a small room and making the space more comfortable for sweaty sleepers who will be able to cool down more easily.
Rebecca Swain, mattress expert at Winstons Beds, said: “It’s a rare thing to sleep with the door open, but after weighing up the benefits, it’s surprising that more people don’t do it.
“Not only does it help regulate room temperature so it’s easier to sleep in, but it also removes the feeling of confinement when resting in smaller spaces.
“It’s worth switching up the bedtime routine by having the door open and keeping a note of any positive changes.”
Here are seven benefits of sleeping with the door open:
- Temperature control
Waking up from overheating is a common problem that can cause a disrupted night’s sleep. An instant fix is to open the door all night so temperatures can cool down to allow for a more comfortable night’s kip.
- Reduces ‘trapped’ feeling
In smaller spaces, having the door open means natural light from other areas of the home can enter the room. This can help make the space feel wider and more comfortable to sleep in as well as alleviate feelings of being trapped and confined.
- Aid snoring troubles
Having the door open won’t magically stop a snorer but the open space and flow of air can help make it easier to breathe for those suffering from blocked nasal airways due to a stuffy room.
- Less dust
A dusty room can trigger allergies and make it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Having the door open with air circulating freely will help reduce the amount that’s been accumulated.
- Pets can freely roam
Many find comfort in having their loved pooch next to them in bed during the night. Having the door open will allow them to come in and out as they please without you having to open the door for them.
- Eliminate foul odours
Having the door open can help get rid of any odours that are trapped in a room and allow a flow of fresh air into the space throughout the night.
- Reduce humidity
Good quality sleep isn’t the only benefit of sleeping with the door open as lower humidity can also reduce the chances of mould forming in the room.
