A snowstorm of creativity gripped the youngsters of Newport Primary School in Essex as they competed to design a giant snow globe to enthral partygoers at their school disco on 8th December. Award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group, brought a sprinkling of snowy magic to Newport, inspiring youngsters to celebrate their outstanding festive art skills ahead of the launch of its highly anticipated sustainable development, Hollymead Square, adjacent to the school in January 2024.
The competition invited children to create a design to feature inside a giant snow globe at the school’s Christmas disco. The winning entry was created by Jacob, a talented young artist in year 3, whose wintry illustration of a snowman with Father Christmas sailing through the night sky behind him, charmed and delighted the judges at Hill in equal measure. The artwork was used to create the striking giant snow globe, while Jacob scooped a £25 gift voucher for his efforts.
Phoebe in year 2 and Lily in year 5 were also awarded gift vouchers of £10 each as runners-up prizes for their colourful, action-packed Christmas scenes that filled the Hill judges with festive joy.
In addition to the competition, Hill ran two snow globe-making workshops at Newport Primary, with 60 children across years 5 and 6 taking part. Pupils made their own festive ornaments using sustainable materials, which they were able to take home and keep or gift to loved ones.
Jane Scawthorn, Interim Headteacher at Newport Primary School, comments: “As a school, we have been focusing on the concept of collaboration this term, so the opportunity to work with The Hill Group this Christmas has been an excellent opportunity to put this into practise. The children have enjoyed working together to make snow globes, while as a community, we have appreciated collaborating with Hill. The result has been plenty of festive cheer for all involved – and the addition of the fabulous giant snow globe at our school disco this winter.”
Rebecca Littler, Group Sales and Marketing Director at The Hill Group, comments: “We were delighted to work with the amazing teachers and children at Newport Primary School to create a series of fun and creative snow globe activities. The children’s enthusiasm and creativity have been inspiring, and we would like to thank them all for their beautiful designs and for letting us be a part of their festive activities this winter.”
