Largs Campus is one of the highest value projects to be carried out by South West, the infrastructure partnership hub. Despite the size, the campus has managed to hit a range of targets as the project moves closer to completion. The project to create the new education facility has been valued at £44 million and is being developed on behalf of North Ayrshire Council. The project had their topping out ceremony in September and is still on track to be completed in March 2018.
The project will see the relocation of Largs Academy and St Mary’s Primary school as well as lead to the creation of an additional primary school which will be formed through the merging of Brisbane and Kelburn Primary Schools. The Largs Campus is under construction in the grounds of SportScotland Inverclyde National Centre at Burnside Road and will have the capacity for 2000 pupils at the new education facility. The Campus will have access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities when the school is completed and handed back the North Ayrshire Local Authorities early next year.
This new campus forms a part of the largest ever capital investment programme to be carried out by North Ayrshire Council. This investment will see improvements made to the school estate to the region of £140 million. The work will be carried out over the course of the next 10 years.
To date the developments that have taken place as a part of this investment has created more than 50 job opportunities in a partnership with the Tier-1 Contractor of the project, Morrison Construction Ltd. Included in these job opportunities have been graduate and apprentice work experience. The development has also seen approximately 2,000 students from schools and colleges in the region benefit from seeing a landmark development become a reality on their doorstep, with a range of Educational Curriculum Events being facilitated.
