A major development of 745 new homes in Basingstoke is bringing an investment of more than £12 million into local services and infrastructure.
Work is progressing well at Hounsome Fields where Vistry Group, Britain’s Biggest housebuilder, is building the new properties under its Bovis Homes and Linden Homes brands.
Construction work started on the site off Winchester Road, opposite Basingstoke Golf Club, in 2020 and 600 of the homes have now been built. The development is due to be finished in January 2026.
The housebuilder has so far paid more than £9.8 million of the estimated £12.7 million it is contributing to local services in line with the planning agreement for the development. This includes the £7,282,205 it has provided to fund the building of Hounsome Fields Primary School, which is due to open in September 2025.
Amber Bowley, regional sales director for Vistry Thames Valley, said: “Hounsome Fields is not only delivering high-quality new housing featuring a mix of open market, affordable rent and shared ownership properties to meet the varying demands of local people. It is also providing a multi-million-pound investment in vital local services which will benefit both new residents and the wider community of Basingstoke.
“The largest financial contribution we will be making as part of the planning agreement is the £7.2 million we have already paid towards the building of Hounsome Fields Primary school which will ensure there are enough school places to allow the new neighbourhood to grow. Also paid in full is the £154,203 contribution to assist in the creation of a new footpath and cycleway between Beggarwood Lane and Wallop Drive.
“We have so far paid £1,547,619 of the more than £2.4million we will be providing to fund improvements along the A30 corridor between the Southwood Corner junction and the Brighton Hill roundabout. Other significant contributions we will be making at future stages of the development in line with the planning agreement include more than £1.8 million towards community facilities and more than £650,000 towards the provision of sports pitches.”
A selection of four-bedroom homes being built under the Bovis Homes brand are currently available to reserve at Hounsome Fields. For more information, visit bovishomes.co.uk.
