The British Library at St Pancras has been awarded a Grade I listed status by Heritage Minister Tracey Crouch.
The listing, on the advice of Historic England, means the building joins the ranks of the top 2.5% of listed buildings in England.
The building is the largest public building to be built in the UK in the 20th century.
Originally designed by architect Colin St John Wilson and his partner MJ Long between 1982 and 1999, it has five public floors designed to sweep upwards like wave.
It is home to various national treasures such as Magna Carta, Lindisfarne Gospels and original Beatles lyrics.
