Schoolchildren from Oxford’s Wolvercote Primary School let their festive imaginations run wild as part of a new competition to decorate eight festive playhouses. The event, organised by award-winning five-star housebuilder The Hill Group, challenged the children to work in groups to create the best design. The festive playhouses were then judged at an event on 18th December, with a prize awarded to the team behind the winning design.
The playhouses provided a blank canvas to turn into something festive. The children have worked in teams, celebrating each other’s unique skills while learning about the value of teamwork. Once complete, the playhouses were transported to Canalside Quarter, Hill’s exciting new contemporary living destination near the scenic Oxford Canal and Canalside Park. Children and teachers were invited along to the marketing suite and showhome, which has itself been beautifully decorated for the festive period, for the judging event on 18th December. A representative from Hill had the tough task of deciding which team should take home the prize for the best decorated playhouse.
Wolvercote Primary Headteacher Mandy Hayes comments: “The children worked in mixed-age groups across their house teams, learning about teamwork and about valuing the different contributions that individuals can make. All with a huge sprinkling of festive fun to let their creative energies flow as we head towards the exciting holiday period. It was a joy to see how enthusiastically they decorated their playhouses and how beautifully they collaborated.”
The festive playhouse competition was one of a range of activities organised by The Hill Group throughout the year for the local community to enjoy. Community is at the core of Hill’s homes at Canalside Quarter, a development comprising a range of contemporary homes, including apartments with one to three bedrooms and luxurious three, four and five-bedroom houses, designed to hold broad appeal to Oxford families of all shapes and sizes. The beautiful green setting includes a landscaped park, play areas, meadow grasslands for picnics and games, and a community-focused neighbourhood square – all just a 14-minute bike ride from Oxford city centre.
Rebecca Littler, Group Sales and Marketing Director at The Hill Group, comments: “We are laying strong foundations for community life at Canalside Quarter, with places for residents to connect with one another and engage in a range of activities. We are building a new community here and this festive playhouse design competition at Wolvercote Primary School has been a real pleasure. I’m delighted to hear how much the children enjoyed working together and to see how the children’s imaginations have been expressed in their designs.”
