Fusion Building Systems has been contracted to their first live site with the well-known residential housebuilding company, Barratt Developments. The two companies conducted a trial of Fusion’s offsite solutions on a Barratt site in West Sussex.
Following this successful trial, Fusion Building Systems have started work for Barratt’s Cane Hill Park development project. This project is located in Coulsdon and will see the construction of 86 residential units in total. Fusion began work on the site in June and over the course of the past eight weeks, Fusion has been able to design and manufacture light gauge steel superstructures.
Two of the five apartment blocks have been erected on the site using these superstructures so far, which is rapid progress for the building systems. The project, when completed will deliver residential units to be used by the private and residential housing markets.
Offsite building solutions are being explored more and more as part of the construction industry as they cut down the amount of time needed to complete a building as well as reduce the amount of trades that will be required on a development site and any access challenges around that.
Barratt Developments is one of the largest homebuilding companies across the country, and for Fusion and their offsite solutions, this contract is amazing news in terms of increasing the number of high profile projects they can add to their portfolio. Barratt reportedly spent around 18 months looking into the different offsite solutions that could be used to boost their use in construction. These solutions could also hold the answer for volume housebuilding.
With the increased demand for houses, many companies are looking for ways in which to increase their rate of construction. Offsite building solutions appear to be a viable option, offering a maintenance of quality as well as increased efficiency and speed.
