Hub South West is a mixed partnership of public and private companies that works to support the designing and construction of community facilities and services. The organisation is involved in the development of the former Canal Court site in Saltcoats into a sheltered housing complex. The £6.48 million project will create a range of facilities including 36 one and two-bedroomed wheelchair accessible flats, designed to cater for the older generation.
The Canal Court development has been completely geared towards meeting the needs of the older generation and making sure that they can live ans independently as possible in their own homes. The project will also see the creation of a number of communal areas including a living room, dining room, private courtyard and a room for visiting services. In order to keep those living in the completed development independent there will also be a social services hub.
This project is the first to be carried out for North Ayrshire Council by hub South West as well as the first residential property development. The company will hopefully be able to use this new project to expand further into a new sector. In order to deliver this development, the hub will be looking to showcase the expertise of businesses in their supply chain. The contractor that has been chosen for this sheltered accommodation project is a local company. Ashleigh Building Services will be able to improve their local employment and apprenticeships schemes by being selected as contractor for this projects and offer more supply chain services in the area going forward.
North Ayrshire Council has worked with hub South West Scotland in the past to complete a number of projects such as Arran’s Montrose House and the new Garnock Community Campus. The current Canal Court project is scheduled to be completed and handed back to North Ayrshire Council on the 31st July 2018.
