MC Construction was first founded 1971 by John Purcell and Charles Lowe. After moving to their current site in 184, at Oldfield road in Salford from Withington in Manchester, the company recently decided that they had outgrown their facilities. In order to provide accommodation for their 60 staff members and prepare for growth in the future. MC Construction plan to expand their workforce to 80 by 2018.
The office extension project has been valued at £500,000, and thought to cater for the projected business growth. The extension has been officially opened in a ceremony attended by around 80 guests, including the two co-founders, John Purcell and Charles Lowe and the Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett. The co-founders have been recognised in the new extension as two meeting rooms in the Salford Headquarters have been named after them. The Salford City Mayor carried out the official ribbon cutting, declaring the extension open.
The two storey extension project has doubled the space on offer for the norther construction company , and the extension has been designed with a focus on MC Construction’s principles of biophilia. This principle looks to improve the wellbeing and concentration levels of those working in the offices with the introduction of nature, natural decoration and lots of natural light. As a part of the use of plants and nature in the office space, there are living walls of plants around the office space. These design aspects featured heavily in the design of the now open plan offices. The open plan layout of the offices is expected to improve communication across the company. Also available on the site are a number of breakout areas to be used by staff.
The new offices have been well received, and it is hoped that they will provide a better working environment for those in the offices of MC Construction. The improved work space is a continuation of the work MC Construction do to carry out best practice. MC Construction is also a Living Wage employer that works hard to support the supply chain in Salford and the surrounding area. It is great news that the extension has been successful, allowing the construction company to stay at their existing headquarters as they grow.
