The Health and Safety Executive (or HSE) has found that asbestos amounts in British homes are still significant and a huge killer that is still affecting many property residents around the United Kingdom. Reports found that 5,000 people die due to the effects of asbestos every single year, and despite the fact that health authorities have been aware of the effects of asbestos since 1899, it is still a significant killer of people in this country. The fact is that it is a causer of a special kind of lung cancer and can even affect people immediately by resulting in halting their breath and thus effectively strangling them.
This is a terrifying notion and the presence of asbestos in a home is a criminal offence that has to be dealt with by the appropriate authorities. Indeed, the fact that a property could be riddled with asbestos if it was built or repaired or worked on before the year 2000 indicates that despite being illegal now, houses all over Great Britain could be containing lethal doses of the stuff. Found in insulation and walls, asbestos released is a dangerous and lethal chemical that must again be dealt with by an appropriate committee. In order to remove asbestos, a contractor properly trained and affiliated with the Health and Safety Executive must be contacted rather than a local builder. This is because there are special procedures that have to take place in order to ensure the safe removal of the chemical from the property and the importance of this cannot be overstated.
If one is suspicious that one’s home might be containing asbestos, it is essential that one contacts the local health and safety officer so that they can assess themselves what needs to be done. When it comes to dealing with asbestos, no chances can be taken and it must be left to the professionals to deal with under any circumstances.
