A project developed by Salix Homes has been named as a finalist for a category of the 24housing Awards. The Hive a project that was first opened in May looks to provide affordable accommodation for young people. The Hive is located on Cromwell Road in Kersal and focuses on providing accommodation for young people who are working, studying or training in the area and would be negatively impacted by having unsuitable living arrangements.
The housing scheme works to help those who are aged from 18 to 25 and has the capacity to accommodate 14 young people. The nation is known to be in the middle of a housing crisis, and it is thought that the younger generation will find it incredibly difficult to to get onto the property ladder. The Hive is a scheme that works to help a number of those people and it is great news that Salix Homes and The Hive is being recognised as part of the national award.
The Hive has been shortlisted and named a finalist for the coveted Affordable Housing Scheme of the Year, part of the 24housing Awards. The winners of this years awards will be announced at an event held in Coventry on the 12th of October. Hopefully The Hive will manage to take the top spot for their work to help young people in the Greater Manchester area.
The site was first launched in May by Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, who thought that similar project should be developed around the area. The Chief Executive of Salix Homes, Lee Sugden has said that The Hive is one of the proudest creations by the housing association. The shortlist of this award is a reflection of the contribution that the project has made to the community. Salix worked alongside Seddon, the contractor, in order to revitalise the building on the Cromwell Road site that was once the Petrie Court homeless shelter. The facility has also been installed with modern facilities and equipment to completely redevelop the old abandoned building.
