Construction work is almost complete at Oteley Gardens in Shrewsbury where planning agreements have resulted in over £700,000 worth of investment in the town.
Vistry Group is building 213 properties at the location off Oteley Road under its Bovis Homes and Linden Homes brands.
The homebuilder agreed as part of its planning permission for the scheme to pay over £700,000under the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) – this is a payment that local authorities can charge developers to fund things such as health, education, and transport in the area where a development is built.
Vistry has already contributed £688,000 of this, and a final payment of over £20,000 will be paid to Shropshire Council now that work on the site is drawing to a close.
As well as providing 75 of the 213 properties at Oteley Gardens as affordable housing for low-cost rent or shared ownership, Vistry has also made a further financial contribution of £27,000 to the council to fund additional affordable homes elsewhere in the county.
Freya Halsall, Vistry Mercia marketing manager, said: “Our work at Oteley Gardens has brought enormous benefits to the area.
“High-quality homes have been built and they have proved to be very popular with homebuyers. The location has provided a place to live for people who might otherwise struggle to purchase a property at full price, and the whole community will benefit from our financial contributions of more than £700,000.”
Construction work started at Oteley Gardens in September 2020. The location features cycleways and footpaths that provide links across the site and connect it to the Rea Brook Valley Nature Reserve and to Shrewsbury town centre.
There are now only two homes still available at Oteley Gardens. These are both in the Linden Homes part of the development and are both four-bedroom houses priced from £329,995.
