A new AI training programme tailored to the UK construction industry has been unveiled today, designed to help construction managers and leaders acquire the skills needed to embrace the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI). The programme, titled ‘AI in Construction: Skills for the Future’, has been developed by Innovate UK BridgeAI programme in partnership with Trilateral Research. It includes in-person networking events, focused training sessions, and stakeholder webinars, providing a comprehensive introduction to AI technologies transforming the construction sector.
With the rise of AI and machine learning, construction companies can increasingly integrate these technologies to enhance operational efficiency, improve safety, and reduce costs. This innovative programme will provide construction managers, senior stakeholders, and other industry professionals with the tools and knowledge necessary to implement AI and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape.
The training is open to construction professionals across the UK, with a focus on middle managers in SMEs and senior leaders who are responsible for driving digital transformation within their organisations.
Responding to Industry Demands
As the construction sector continues to modernise, the need for skilled professionals who can effectively implement AI has become more evident. This programme was developed in response to increasing demand for AI-specific training within the industry. Research suggests that, while AI can greatly enhance project outcomes, a knowledge gap exists amongst construction professionals regarding practical AI applications.
Speaking on the programme’s launch, Sara El-Hanfy, Head of AI & Machine Learning at Innovate UK, said: “This training programme represents a major step forward in preparing the construction industry for the future. AI is already making waves in industries around the world, and construction is no exception. We want to ensure that professionals at every level are equipped to take advantage of AI’s benefits and lead their organisations into a new era of innovation.”
“Our goal is to provide practical, hands-on training that demystifies AI for construction professionals. This is not just about learning theory – it’s about applying AI in real-world construction scenarios to drive tangible results.”
A Three-Tiered Approach to AI Training
The AI programme is designed to cater to different levels of experience and needs within organisations through three key offerings:
Building Connections: AI Insights for Construction Leaders and Managers
These evening networking events will bring construction managers and industry leaders together to share knowledge and engage with AI experts. Attendees will hear from early adopters who are already benefitting from AI in construction, helping to raise awareness and build relationships that will drive AI adoption across the sector.
AI Construction Training (ACT)
Targeted specifically at middle managers in SMEs, these online training sessions are free and funded by Innovate UK BridgeAI. They will provide participants with the knowledge to integrate AI solutions within their teams, covering topics like AI project management, automating routine tasks, predictive analytics, and enhancing safety on-site. The interactive sessions will focus on practical applications that can be immediately implemented.
AI in Construction: RoI for Senior Leaders
Senior decision-makers are invited to join exclusive webinars that delve into the return on investment (RoI) associated with AI adoption. These sessions will explore how AI can streamline processes, improve decision-making, and boost profitability. Participants will also learn about the regulatory and compliance impacts of AI on the industry.
Developing a Future-Proof Workforce
The UK construction industry is facing a number of challenges, from post-pandemic recovery to sustainability goals and workforce shortages. AI offers solutions by improving efficiency, cutting waste, and boosting project performance. However, a successful transition to AI depends on a workforce skilled in its use.
Through this training programme, Innovate UK BridgeAI and Trilateral Research aim to close the skills gap and empower construction professionals to use AI effectively, ensuring they can future-proof both their careers and their organisations.
